Stage I: Regional Auditions
Think you are the ultimate urban star? Now is the time to prove it! Step 2 the mic is bringing the competition to you! Audition live in front of our judges and cameras and get a chance to represent your city in our Canadian Nationwide tour finale.
During the audition you can sing acapella, freestyle rap or sing / rap with beats that you provide on a CD. All music and lyrics must be original. You can perform 1-2 songs but you must limit the length of songs to two (2) minutes. Our panel of judges will rate you according to the following three (3) criteria: the calibre of your (1) lyrics; (2) performance; and (3) presentation. Selected contestants will perform at the Step 2 The Mic regional showcases in the following cities: Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Kitchener, London, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.i
Stage II: Regional Finals
Who can Step 2 the mic? Regional showcases will be conducted in ten (10) cities across Canada. Selected regional contestants in Stage I of the contest will perform in each city between March and April 2006 (see tour dates), in front of celebrity judges. Two contestants from each regional final will be selected to represent their city in the ultimate nationwide challenge held in Toronto April 15, 2006.
Stage III: National Finals
Where is the urban star power in Canada? Two contestants from each city get to step 2 the mic and battle it out on April 15, 2006. The ultimate urban star will claim their title and receive a record deal, a Chrysler 300 and a ten thousand dollar ($10, 000.00)iii cash prize!iv
Application and Processing
Register now and secure a spot to audition in one of these cities:

In order to compete, you must complete an application form, the application and processing fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) will be applied for individuals or musical groups. Register on-line, by mail, on the day of live audition (stage I). Here’s how you can do it:
1. Complete the online application form and make the payment on-line using our Paypal easy payment method. Mail a copy of your demo containing (two) 2 songs with original lyrics ; or
2. Print the application form, complete it and mail it to us along with the processing fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) , cheque or money order, and a copy of your demo containing (two) 2 songs with original lyrics; or
3. Present yourself at the registration counter in your city (see tour info for your city dates). Complete the application form. The processing fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) is payable with cash, credit card or certified cheque.
*Contestants will choose the city in which they wish to compete.
Voting Process
You be judge! Let us know who you believe is the ultimate urban star! There will be a video of each of the finalist’s performances online. You will be able to vote on-line for your favorite contestant.
